Even the pros make beauty blunders

Even the pros make beauty blunders

We make a lot of mistakes over here at the Happy Shed.

And you know what?

That doesn’t bother us one iota!

It’s because the mistakes we’re making are the good kind… they’re mistakes that we’re learning from. Of course we do our best not to make mistakes (like shipping your orders - we like to get that right every time!), but sometimes you’ve just gotta have a crack and see what works (and what doesn’t!).

Like clever ol’ Albert Einstein said, “a person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”

In the lab we try out new ingredients and botch test formulas all the time. And you might get a giggle out of knowing that we’ve got a bit of a track record for making a few mistakes when testing out products on ourselves too!

Our FABULOUS in-house beauty therapist, Jen, has been brave enough to share a couple of her most memorable beauty blunders with us and after we had a chuckle in the office, she actually agreed to let us share them with you on the blog. So you’re in for a treat today - just don’t try these at home, kids.

The Blunders

As Oscar Wilde once said, “Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.'' So, if you’re looking for the most experienced skincare team in Australia, look no further.

Jen loves to mix things up a bit and do some DIY, and from time to time things can go awry!

Blunder #1 - The body mask

After getting her hands on an interesting sounding deep sea body mud mask, Jen thought it sounded too good just to use on her body and decided to go for a face application too. At first it felt hot but Jen dismissed the thought with a “she’ll be right!” and left it on to do its thing despite the fact that it reeked of sulphur. A short while later she washed it off to reveal a whole lot of redness, heat and a few hours of discomfort. Eek! (scroll up for the pic of Jen’s uncomfortable face).

The takeaway:keep body products on your body, and face products on your face! If you’re feeling something a bit hot or strange when you’re masking, it’s best to wash it off.

Blunder #2 - The cinnamon scrub

Not to be deterred after her body mask mishap, Jen decided to do a DIY stimulating, regenerating cinnamon scrub. After searching the net for recipes she found one that sounded good - like it had a bit of “oomph” - and whipped it up. It started off feeling warm but very quickly it got to the “I can’t stand this on my face any longer!” point. Rather than the pep me up she was hoping for the cinnamon scrub felt like a hard slap in the face (the kind where the sting just hangs around!).

The takeaway:Not all ingredients are gentle on your skin - even natural ones like cinnamon. So if you’re trying something new patch test it on a small area of skin first before you go gung-ho.

Blunder #3 - The henna lash tint

You might already be noticing a pattern here of skincare experimenting, but Jen has even go so far as to try her own henna lash tint experiment. This one happened long before henna tints were all the rage and regularly used by beauty therapists. You could say Jen was an early adopter! To cut a long story short this one involved using henna that wasn't professional grade and ended up with a visit to the doctor after henna made it into Jen's eyes. Oh no :(

The takeaway: Be super careful getting new, unfamiliar products near your eyes and if in doubt head to a salon where they safely do this sort of thing all the time.

The Wins

The flip-side of making a beauty blunder is having a beauty win, and we have these in spades! Here are some of Jen’s favourite discoveries from using Woohoo Skincare products in weird and wonderful ways:

Win #1 - Mix your Pig In Mud Mineral Mask with Tickled Pink

For a sensational spot treatment, instead of mixing your Pig In Mud Mineral Mask with water, use the Tickled Pink Perfecting Tonic instead.Extra tip: You can also use the Raindrops on Roses Hydrating Tonic but this won’t have the spot-busting prowess of the Tickled Pink.

Win #2 - Turn the Cloud 9 into a microdermabrasion treatment

All you’ve got to do is mix a very small amount of bicarb soda in with your Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm for next level exfoliating microdermabrasion treatment. We’ve found that 1 teaspoon of Cloud 9 and ½ teaspoon of bicarb soda works best. Be gentle!

Win #3 - All Things Nice on stuck zippers

Need we say more? Told you Jen tries everything. If you've got a zipper that won't budge, try applying some All Things Nice Multipurpose Balm to get it unstuck.

Win #4 - Mix your Pig In Mud Mineral Mask with yoghurt

This one is for our non-vegans. Oily and Combination skin will LOVE a mask made from Pig In Mud Mineral Mask and greek yoghurt mixed together. It’s non-drying and gently exfoliating due to yoghurt’s natural acids.Extra tip: Remove it with a chux or paper towel then follow with a soft cloth or konjac sponge. Yoghurt is tricky to wash out, so avoid using your favourite towelling face cloth for the removal bit.

Win #5 - Your Cloud 9 is a mask too

Wear your Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm for up to half an hour for the most divine moisturising mask treatment imaginable. Nothing extra required!

So you can clearly see that Jen walks the walk. She personally tries and tests EVERYTHING and the hints and tips that get through have been given the official Jen tick of approval.

Here in Happy land we’d never recommend anything that we haven’t tried ourselves and our wonderful Jen is the complete epitome of that!!! If there’s something you’re needing help with (skin related please!), we’re here to help X
