How to get the most from your natural deodorant

Life has its ups and downs. But thankfully, there’s no need to sweat the small stuff when you have a trusty deo by your side. Plus, when you do feel weighed-down, your dutiful deo will keep you feeling fresh (and not smelly!).

Of course, not all deos are the same. First things first, you need to choose the rightdeodorant.

We all know that sweat happens, but that doesn’t mean it has to be stinky. Mind blown?

Let us explain. Traditional deos and antiperspirants use ethanol and aluminium salts to block sweat glands and prevent sweating. This might sound like the bomb diggity, but contrary to popular belief, sweating is actually good for us.

Sweating cools your body, keeps your pores clear and may help rid your body of toxins.

To make the very most of your deo, it’s best to go all-natural! Natural ingredients can gently neutralise the odour in sweat while also absorbing moisture. Hello, dry-whiff-free-clean-as-a-whistle-armpits!

If you’ve recently ditched your antiperspirant and are curious to know how to make the most of your natural deo to make it go last the distance, here are a few handy tips.

Prime your pits

Don’t neglect your poor pits when you’re showering or bathing. Odour-causing bacteria can attach to the hairs, which is so-not-helpful when you want that fresh armpit feeling.

Giving your pits a thorough clean (and mild exfoliant) will get rid of pore-clogging oils and sweat, help keep bacteria at bay and prep for deodorant application.

Less is more

Planning on doing a power training session? Juggling housework, pets and kids? Got a hectic day at work? Don’t fall into the trap of slathering your pits in the good stuff. Believe us, a pea-sized amount is all you need to keep BO at bay! Overdoing it may counteract all of the stink-busting benefits.

Apply like a moisturiser

There’s a right and a wrong way to use natural deodorant. You can’t just slap it on and expect it to work wonders! To get the most from your deo, make sure you know how to apply it the right way. If you’re using our paste, this means using your fingertips to rub it into the skin. Think moisturiser for your armpits! Make sure you apply to the entire armpit area and give it a nice, even coat. If you’re using a stick, a couple of small swipes should coat the pits nicely. Remember: less is more.

Use a small amount

You only need to push up our Woohoo Deodorant Sticks 1 to 2 millimetres to avoid wastage. If you’ve pushed your stick up too far, as tempting as it is, don’t push it back down with the lid as this can shave off and smush some of the formula which can be wasteful. All you need to do is leave the cap off and send it back down by tapping the base firmly on a solid surface. It’s so simple you won’t even work up a sweat! If you’re using our pastes, try scooping a tiny amount with our handy bamboo sticks. This will ensure you get just the right quantity (a pea sized amount for each armpit) ready for application.

Keep cool

No, not you—your deodorant! Ideally, you should keep your deo under 30 degrees so it doesn’t melt. So on those super duper hot days, pop it in the fridge.

Stick with it

If you’re new to natural deodorants (good on you for making the switch), it may seem like your new deo is not doing the trick. This is because it can sometimes take a little time for your pores to unblock and any build-up of toxins to detox. During this stage it may seem like you’re sweating more than normal and you stink more than ever. Stick with it for a few weeks. Trust us! Dry, BO-free pits are waiting in the wings!
